Every automatic wears a little metal, and most of it is finer than anything the filter can stop. A transmission filter catches particles down to about 35 microns; the clutch dust and bearing grit that actually score your valve body and pump are smaller than that, and they just keep circulating. This drain plug puts a strong magnet right in the bottom of the pan so that fine ferrous debris collects on the plug instead of grinding around inside the unit. It also gives you a straight read on the transmission's health: wipe the plug at every fluid change, and a light gray film is normal while a heavy pile of shavings tells you something inside is coming apart before it strands you.

The magnet is a high-temperature N48SH neodymium rare earth, rated to hold past 302F, well above the 175F to 250F range where standard magnets quit and hotter than the fluid ever runs. It is strong enough to hold better than two pounds, so it grabs both the microscopic particles the filter misses and the larger shavings that clog a filter up. The body is genuine 304 stainless steel, not the aluminum that shears off and leaves a broken plug stuck in the pan, and not pot metal, so it torques down and comes back out year after year without rounding or snapping. An aluminum crush washer is included so it seals clean the first time.

This one is a direct-fit replacement for the GM 8654382 / 444613 transmission drain plug used across the 6T70 and 6T75 six-speed units found under Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Cadillac, Pontiac, and Hummer, so it threads in exactly like the factory plug and seats flush.
