ZF 8HP70 Transmission Fluid and Filter Service Kit

This is the full service kit for the ZF 8HP70 eight-speed used behind the 5.7L Hemi and 3.6L Pentastar in Ram 1500 (2013-2019), Jeep Grand Cherokee (2014-2019), Dodge Durango (2014-2019) and Charger and Challenger (2015-2019). The 8HP70 uses a one-piece pan with the filter bonded into it, so there is no separate filter to swap: the pan, filter and gasket come off and go on as a single assembly. That assembly is what ships here, along with the 13 pan bolts, a fill plug with a fresh seal ring, six liters of OE-spec ATF made in Germany, and a hand pump for filling through the side fill port.

On the bench or on a lift, the job runs like this: bring the transmission to operating temperature, pull the drain plug in the center of the pan and let it drop, then break the 13 perimeter bolts loose and lower the pan and filter as one piece. Scrape nothing - the gasket is molded to the new pan, so the case surface only needs to be wiped clean. Torque the new pan bolts in a criss-cross pattern, then refill through the side fill plug with the included pump until fluid weeps back out at the correct fluid temperature. The 8HP70 has no dipstick, so the fill port and fluid temperature are the only way to set level correctly.

Skipping this service is what kills these units. The 8HP70 shares fluid between the mechatronic valve body and the clutch packs, and worn friction material circulating through the solenoid bores is the usual cause of harsh 1-2 shifts, flare on the 4-5 upshift, and stored ratio codes.
