8HP70 Deep Aluminum Transmission Pan for Ram 1500 228053010

This is a heavy duty deep aluminum oil pan for the ZF 8HP70 and 8HP75 8-speed automatic, part number 228053010. The factory 8HP pan is plastic with the filter built into it. This pan has cooling fins on the outside and holds about 2 more quarts of ATF than the stock pan. The kit includes the pan, a transmission filter, a pan gasket and a magnetic drain plug. The pan also has a 1/8 inch NPT port for a fluid temperature sensor.

Fitment: 2013-2021 Ram 1500 with the 5.7L Hemi, and 2015-2021 Dodge Challenger and Charger with the 5.7L or 6.4L. Other Chrysler and BMW models also use the 8HP70 or 8HP75 case. Before you order for one of those, compare the pan shape and bolt pattern with the pan on your transmission.

This pan makes sense on a Ram that tows, or on a Scat Pack or Hemi car that sees hard launches. More fluid and more surface area slow the rise in ATF temperature, and heat is what cooks clutch packs and varnishes the mechatronic unit. The stock plastic pan can crack or strip at a bolt hole. A service also means buying a whole new pan because the filter is part of it. With this pan you replace only the filter at each service.

To install it, put the truck or car on level ground, drain the fluid and remove the plastic pan. Clean the aluminum case flange, and do not use a metal scraper on it. Install the new filter into the case, set the gasket, and bolt the pan up in a crisscross pattern to the torque spec for your model. Fill the transmission with the correct ZF 8-speed fluid. Because the pan is deeper, it takes more ATF than the factory fill. Check the level at the fill plug with the engine running and the fluid in the correct temperature window, which is about 30-50 C on most 8HP applications. Top off until fluid just starts to weep out of the fill hole.
