8HP70 Transmission Service Kit with Pan, Filter and ATF

This is a complete pan-and-fluid service for the ZF 8HP70 (GA8HP70Z) eight-speed used behind BMW inline-six and V8 applications. On the 8HP the filter is not a serviceable element you drop out of a steel pan - it is bonded into a composite pan assembly, so the correct service is to replace the whole pan with the filter in it. This kit ships that pan already built with the drain plug, pan gasket and pickup magnets installed, plus the 13 pan bolts, a fresh fill plug and seal, six liters of OE-spec ATF made in Germany, and a hand transfer pump so you can push fluid in through the side fill port without a lift-mounted filler.

Bench sequence: pull the drain plug and let the old fluid out warm, then remove the 13 bolts and drop the pan assembly - expect residual fluid in the pan tray, so keep the drain pan under it. Clean the case flange, set the new pan up with the gasket already on it, and run the bolts down to 8 Nm. That torque is not a suggestion. The pan flange is composite; overtighten the bolts and you distort the sealing rib and end up chasing a leak you just created. Reinstall the drain plug, then fill through the side fill plug with the transfer pump until fluid weeps back out at the correct fill temperature with the engine running and the box cycled through the gears.

This is the service that fixes the common high-mileage 8HP complaints - harsh 2-3 and 4-5 shifts, a shudder in the lockup range, and slow engagement when cold - before they turn into a mechatronic or clutch pack job. BMW called these boxes lifetime fill; the fluid does not agree, and shops routinely find dark, varnished ATF and loaded magnets at 60,000 to 100,000 miles. Verify the transmission code stamped on your case tag before ordering - 8HP70 and 8HP45 use different pans and different fluid volumes, and the 45 will not take this pan.
