48RE Transmission Solenoid and Filter Service Kit

This is the service kit you drop the pan for when a 46RE, 47RE or 48RE starts shifting badly and the scan tool points at governor pressure. It carries the Borg Warner governor pressure solenoid (interchange 4617210 and 52118652), the four pin rectangular governor pressure transducer (56028196AA through 56028196AD, 68164850AA), the solenoid gasket, the output speed sensor, both the metal and plastic filters, the 3-4 accumulator spring, and the pan gasket. Filter and gasket kit interchange is 52118789.

The governor pressure solenoid and transducer live on the valve body under the pan on every 2000 and newer Dodge and Jeep unit built as an A500, A518, A618, 42RE, 46RE, 47RE or 48RE. When the transducer drifts or the solenoid sticks, the TCM loses its real governor pressure reading and you get the classic set of complaints: a hard 1-2 hit, a soft flaring shift, an upshift that never comes, or a truck that shifts fine cold and turns harsh once the fluid warms up. Codes P0748, P1762 and P1763 all point at this same corner of the valve body.

On the bench or on a lift the job runs the same way. Drain and drop the pan, pull the filter, unbolt the two piece solenoid and transducer assembly from the valve body, unplug the internal harness connector, and swap both pieces together rather than chasing one at a time. Set the new solenoid gasket dry, torque the retaining bolts light, install the fresh filter with its seal fully seated in the pump bore, and lay down the new pan gasket. The output speed sensor in the kit is the other common driver of erratic shift points on these trucks, so it is worth changing while the fluid is already out.

Refill with ATF+4 and relearn on a short drive. If the harsh shift was caused by a failed transducer, the change is obvious on the first 1-2 upshift.
