The heavy-duty thicker-steel reaction sun shell that fixes the number-one failure point in a 700R4 or 4L60E rebuild, so the unit stops splitting the shell and losing drive.
If you have built or driven a GM 700R4, 4L60, or 4L60E, you already know where these units die: the reaction sun shell. The factory shell is thin, and the splined section that ties the sun gear to the drum cracks and strips out. When it lets go you lose reverse and the forward gears go with it, and the car rolls to a stop with a fresh pile of steel in the pan. It is the single most common hard-part failure in the whole 4L60 family, and it is exactly what this shell is built to end.
This is the genuine Beast, part number 42298B, machined from thicker steel than the factory-style shell and heat-treated so the spline area that normally fails holds up to towing, performance, and hard daily use. Rebuilders reach for it on every 700R4 and 4L60E they put together for a reason: putting a stock shell back into a unit you just tore down is asking to do the job twice. This one turns the weakest link in the transmission into one of the strongest.
It fits the 700R4, 4L60, TH700-R4, 4L60E, 4L65E, 4L70E, and 4L75E across 1982 through 2013 applications, and it is set up for both the early washer-style assemblies and the later Torrington-bearing units, with an updated nylon thrust washer included. It interchanges with part numbers A74624A and NTP-51810B. Verify your transmission model, year, and internal configuration before ordering, then build the unit once and be done with it.
