4L60E Transmission Oil Pan with Drain Plug and Gasket

Stock-depth replacement transmission pan for the GM 700R4, 4L60 and 4L60E, 2-5/8 inches deep, supplied with the gasket and the full bolt set. It crosses to OE-style part number SP8594BK. The reason to buy it is the drain plug: the factory 4L60E pan has none, so every fluid service means cracking the pan loose and catching four quarts of ATF over your arms. With a plug you pull the fluid first, drop the pan clean, change the filter, and keep the rail dry while you work.

It is also the right call on a pan that is done. A 4L60E pan that has been pried off with a screwdriver a few times will have a dished, nicked flange that will not seal no matter how many gaskets you stack, and a pan that has taken a rock or a trailer hitch drop can be pushed in far enough to touch the filter and starve the pump. Both of those are pan replacement jobs, not gasket jobs.

Installation: drain the old fluid, drop the old pan, replace the filter and its seal, and clean the case rail with a plastic scraper only - a steel blade leaves burrs that guarantee a weep. Lay the gasket dry, start every bolt by hand, then torque in a crossing pattern to roughly 97-106 in-lb (about 8-9 ft-lb). Do not over-torque; crushing the gasket is the most common cause of a leak right after a pan job. Refill, cycle through the gears, and recheck the level hot.
