The 3-4 clutch is where a 4L60E dies first. It carries the load in overdrive on the highway, and the stock frictions glaze and burn, which is what you feel as a slip or flare on the 3-4 shift right before the transmission gives up third and fourth. This Raybestos Powertrain RCP96-087 pack replaces those frictions with high-energy plates built to take that heat.

The friction material is a blend of Kevlar, ceramics, graphite and carbon rated to surface temperatures as high as 800 degrees Fahrenheit, so it holds its grip and clearance instead of cooking off the first time the converter locks under a load.
