About this product

Five new solenoids for the early GM 4L60E and 4L65E, 1993 through 2002. Cross-reference numbers on this set are 24203101 for the EPC pressure control solenoid, 24230298 for the shift solenoids, 24227792 for the TCC PWM lockup solenoid and 24212327 for the 3-2 downshift control solenoid. All new parts. The early 4L60E uses a different solenoid connector than the 2003-on unit, so match the numbers or the connector bodies against your valve body before ordering.

An early 4L60E with original electricals has five solenoids that have spent twenty-plus years in hot ATF. They do not fail one at a time in any useful sense - the one that throws the code is simply the one that got there first. Since the whole job is a pan drop and a filter, doing all five means you are not back under the vehicle in a month for the next one.

The symptoms that point at this kit: P0748 or wandering line pressure that makes the unit flare into one gear and slam into the next, which is the EPC; P0751 or P0756 with a stuck gear, no 3rd or no 4th, which is a shift solenoid hung open or closed; P0742 or P1870 with converter shudder at light throttle in overdrive or no lockup at all, which is the TCC PWM; and a hard, banging 3-2 downshift, which is the 3-2 control. None of those mean the clutches are gone. They mean the valve body is being told the wrong thing.

On the bench: drop the pan and drain it, pull the filter, unplug each solenoid from the internal harness, remove the retainer bolts, and install each new solenoid with a fresh O-ring pressed square into its bore. Do not reuse old O-rings - they are the usual reason a fresh solenoid still shows a pressure code. Install the new filter and gasket, torque the pan in a crossing pattern, refill and check level hot in park with the engine running, then clear codes and drive it through a full 1-2-3-4 and lockup cycle.
