4L60E Master Rebuild Kit with Frictions and Steels

A full master overhaul kit for the 4L60E and 4L65E in 1997-2003 GM vehicles - Silverado 1500, Tahoe, Suburban, Blazer, S10, Trailblazer, Sierra 1500, Jimmy, Safari, Savana, Envoy, Sonoma, Astro, Camaro, Firebird and the 1999-2003 Escalade. It covers units behind the 4.3L V6 and the 4.8L, 5.3L, 5.7L and 6.0L V8s. This is the 1997-up generation with the PWM converter clutch, so check the transmission tag before ordering if your truck sits on the year boundary.

What is in the box: friction clutch plates for the forward, overrun, 3-4, 2-4 band and low/reverse packs, hardened steel reaction plates, the complete gasket and seal set, pump and case bushings, thrust washers, teflon sealing rings, O-rings, the transmission filter and the small hardware. That is the whole soft-parts list for a bench overhaul in one part number, which matters because the usual way a 4L60E job stalls out is finding at teardown that one sealing ring or one thrust washer was not in the kit you bought.

The 4L60E failure most people are chasing when they order this is the 3-4 clutch pack. It is the thinnest pack in the unit, it carries the load in overdrive, and it burns first - the symptom is a flare or slip going into 4th, or an RPM climb on the highway with no gear change. The 2-4 band and the forward pack go next. New frictions alone will not hold if the steels are coned or blued, which is why the steels are in here too; a warped steel plate never lets the pack apply flat and the new frictions cook in a few hundred miles.

This kit is soft parts only. It does not include hard parts - no sun shell, no planetary, no pump, no valve body, no torque converter. Inspect the reaction sun shell and the pump during teardown, since both are common failures on the same units, and replace them separately if worn.
