Four bench tools for a GM 4L60E overhaul: pump alignment band, low/reverse spring compressor, and turbine and stator shaft Teflon seal sizers.
This set covers four jobs on a GM 4L60E teardown and reassembly that are hard to do cleanly without the dedicated tool. It includes a T-1097 style front pump alignment band, a T-0151 style low/reverse (rear) clutch spring compressor, a J-36418-C style turbine shaft Teflon seal installer/resizer, and an ST-1503 style stator shaft Teflon seal installer/resizer.
Pump alignment band: with the pump halves bolted loosely, wrap the band around the pump body and cover, snug the wing nut to pull the two halves concentric, then torque the pump bolts in sequence and remove the band. A pump that is bolted up out of round is a common cause of a leaking pump bushing, a bound gear, or a pump that seizes after the first drive. The band also fits the 700R4, 4L60, TH350, TH400, 3L80, 200-4R style and Powerglide pumps.
Low/reverse spring compressor: the bar hooks under the case lugs and the screw pushes the low/reverse piston return spring down far enough to get the snap ring out, instead of prying on the spring cage. It is listed for the 700R4, 4L60, 4L60E, 4L65E, 4L70E and TH350 family.
Teflon seal sizers: scarf-cut Teflon rings stretch when you slide them onto the turbine shaft (input housing) and stator shaft (pump cover). Push the installer cone to seat the new rings, then run the resizer sleeve over them so they close back down to size before the input housing or clutch drum goes on. Skipping this step is how new rings get cut or rolled on assembly, which shows up as slipping in third or fourth or a delayed forward engagement. Fits 700R4, 4L60, 4L60E, 4L65E and 4L70E shafts.
