Full high-energy friction plate set for GM 700-R4, 4L60, 4L60E and 4L65E rebuilds, for fixing clutch slip and delayed engagement.
This is the complete friction plate set for the GM 700-R4 / 4L60 / 4L60E / 4L65E family, covering units built from 1980 up through the end of the 4L65E run. Remco part number RCPS-15. It is a Stage 1 high-energy friction pack, so the facing material is rated for more heat and higher clamp load than a plain OE-replacement friction, which is what you want in a truck that tows or a build running more than stock power.
Read this before you order: this listing is the frictions only. No steel plates, no filter, no band, no seals, no gaskets. Plenty of rebuilders already have good steels and just need fresh frictions, which is exactly what this covers. If you are doing a full teardown and need steels and a gasket set too, buy an overhaul kit instead and save yourself a second order.
On the bench, a slipping 4L60E almost always shows up as a burnt 3-4 clutch pack or a glazed forward pack. You will smell it before you see it, and the fluid comes out dark with fiber floating in it. Air-check each drum after you stack the new frictions, and soak the plates in clean ATF for at least 30 minutes before assembly so the fiber is saturated when it first sees pressure. Set clutch clearance with the correct selective plate for each pack. Stacking new frictions into a drum with worn or cone-shaped steels will cook the new material in a few hundred miles, so inspect the steels and replace any that show hot spots or discoloration.
Shipping weight is 3.3 lb and it ships in a 16 x 16 x 2 inch box. Confirm the transmission code stamped on your case before ordering. 700-R4, 4L60, 4L60E and 4L65E are one family but they do not share every internal spec, so match the code, not just the year and model of the vehicle.
