4L80E HD2 Transmission Shift Reprogramming Kit

This is an HD2-style reprogramming kit for the GM 4L80E, built to the same 4L80E-HD2 part number layout as the familiar shift-correction kit. It fits 1991-and-later 4L80E and 4L85E units in Chevy and GMC 2500/3500 trucks, Express and Savana vans, Suburbans and Hummers, including the heavy-duty and towing applications where these transmissions live.

In the box: a laminated triple separator plate and gaskets, a relief valve system plate, new 1-2 and 3rd accumulator springs, accumulator valve springs, actuator feed filter components, 16 direct clutch return springs, a hardened boost valve, a heavy-duty intermediate case snap ring, and the drill bits needed for the valve body mods.

On the bench, the kit goes in with the valve body off: drill the called-out passages, swap in the new separator plate and gaskets, replace the accumulator springs and boost valve, and install the new direct clutch return springs during the drum rebuild. The intermediate case snap ring is the one that walks out of its groove on a worked 4L80E and lets the center support move, so it goes in any time the case is apart.

What it fixes: soft, slipping 1-2 and 2-3 shifts, flare on the 3-4, delayed engagement, and the clutch wear that follows a lazy shift under load. Best installed during an overhaul, since several pieces go inside the unit, not just under the pan. Follow the kit instructions for the drill steps before you bolt the valve body back up.
