4L80E Transmission Oil Pan with Drain Plug, OE 265-810

This is a stamped steel replacement oil pan for the GM 4L80E four-speed automatic, the heavy-duty unit behind the 6.0L, 8.1L and 6.5L diesel in 3/4-ton and 1-ton GM trucks and vans. It replaces OE pan 265-810 (GM 24204278, 12739229) and comes with a threaded drain plug already installed, so the next fluid change does not require dropping the pan.

Fitment covers 1997-2009 Chevy Express and GMC Savana 2500/3500, 1999-2004 Silverado and Sierra 2500, 2001-2006 Silverado and Sierra 2500HD/3500, 1997-2000 C/K 2500 and 3500, 2000-2007 Suburban 2500 and Yukon XL 2500, 2002-2006 Avalanche 2500, 2002-2003 Escalade, and W3500/W4500 Tiltmaster and Isuzu NPR chassis through 2009. Confirm your transmission is a 4L80E before ordering; it does not fit the 4L60E or 6L90.

The usual reasons to replace a 4L80E pan are a dented pan from a rock or jack point, a bolt flange that has been over-torqued until it dishes and weeps at the corners, or a rusted-through pan on an older work truck. A bent pan can also push against the filter and restrict pickup, which shows up as delayed engagement or whine when the fluid is low and hot.

On the bench: drain and drop the old pan, pull the filter straight down, and scrape the case rail clean to bare metal. Install a new filter and seal, set a new 4L80E pan gasket on the pan (gasket is not included), start every pan bolt by hand, and snug them in a crossing pattern to the GM spec rather than cranking them down. Refill with Dexron-type ATF and check level hot, in park, on level ground.
