4T65E Master Rebuild Kit with Frictions, Steels and Bands

A master rebuild kit for the GM 4T65E front-wheel-drive four-speed, referenced to GM 24206433. Inside the box: the complete overhaul gasket and seal set, a piston kit, a replacement filter, 22 friction plates, 11 steel plates, and all three bands, including double-wrap large and medium bands and a single-wrap small band.

Listed fitment includes the 2004-2010 Chevy Impala 3.5L and Impala SS 5.3L, 2004-2007 Monte Carlo, 2006-2007 Malibu 3.5L, 2005-2010 Buick LaCrosse and 2006-2010 Lucerne 3.8L, 2004-2005 LeSabre, 2005-2006 Rendezvous, 2005-2007 Terraza, 2004-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix including the GXP, 2006-2010 G6 3.9L, 2004-2005 Aztek and 2004-2006 Montana.

The 4T65E usually comes in with a slipping 2-3 shift, a flare into fourth, or no reverse after the reverse band or 2-1 band wears through. The heavy V6 and 5.3L cars are hard on the bands, so a kit that includes all three plus the double-wrap upgrades saves hunting them separately. Swapping the pistons at the same time takes care of hardened apply seals that cause slow engagement.

On the bench, inspect the hard parts before committing: the input shaft sealing ring grooves, the drive sprocket and chain, the 1-2 roller clutch, and the 3-4 clutch housing. Soak frictions and bands in ATF, set pack clearances as you assemble, and flush the cooler before refilling with Dexron VI. Finish with a shift adapt relearn on a scan tool.
