6T40 6T45 Transmission Filter and Pan Gasket Kit for Cruze Equinox Terrain (24230708)

This is the filter and pan gasket you drop in when you service a GM 6T40 or 6T45 six-speed automatic. It is the transverse front-wheel-drive box GM put behind the 1.4L, 1.8L and 2.4L four-cylinders, so it covers a huge number of Cruze, Equinox, Terrain, LaCrosse and Regal cars on the road. Kit replaces OE numbers 24230708, 24246194 and 515699.

Fitment is Chevrolet Equinox 2010-2011 2.4L (6T45), Cruze 2011 1.4L and 1.8L (6T40), GMC Terrain 2010-2011 2.4L (6T45), and Buick LaCrosse and Regal 2011 2.4L (6T45). These are one of the few GM transaxles where the filter sits under a stamped pan you can drop without pulling the unit, so a filter and fluid service is a driveway job.

On the bench the order is simple: drop the pan, pull the old filter straight down off the pickup, seat the new filter until it clicks onto the pump bore, lay the new gasket on a clean sealing surface and torque the pan bolts evenly. Do not reuse the old gasket. These pans warp at the bolt holes if someone overtightened them before, so check the flange is flat before you button it up.

Skipping the filter on a high-mile 6T40 is how you end up chasing 1-2 and 2-3 shift complaints. A loaded filter starves the pump, drops line pressure and cooks the clutches. If the fluid came out dark or smelled burnt, change the filter, not just the fluid.
