The 6T40 family is known for harsh or delayed engagement, a shudder on the 3-5-R clutch, and slipping in 4th through 6th once the pistons start to leak. A fresh piston pack fixes pressure loss that frictions alone will not. Replace the frictions and steels, check clearances, fill with Dexron VI and clear the adapts with a scan tool so the TCM can relearn fill times.
