Compresses the 1-2-3-4 clutch piston return spring and seats the retaining ring in the bore on GM 6T40 and 6T45 transaxles during rebuild.
This is the DT-47799 clutch piston spring compressor set for the GM 6T40/6T45 six-speed transaxle. It does the one job that stops most 6T40 rebuilds cold: pushing the 1-2-3-4 clutch piston and its return spring down far enough to drop the snap ring back into the groove without the piston fighting you or the ring launching across the bench. The set is three pieces, a retaining ring guide plus the DT-47799-1 and DT-47799-2 compressor halves, so both the piston and the ring seat into the bore at the same time.
Fitment covers the 6T40 family found in a lot of GM front-drive cars and crossovers from 2017 on: Chevy Cruze, Equinox, Malibu and Traverse, GMC Terrain, and Buick Verano, LaCrosse and Enclave. If you have chased a 1-2-3-4 clutch or the 3-5-reverse clutch on one of these units, this is the SST the factory procedure calls for by number.
Built from solid steel with a black anti-corrosion finish. On the bench you set the guide, run the compressor down evenly against the spring retainer, seat the snap ring, then back it off. It replaces the usual trick of stacking sockets and prying, which is how pistons get cocked and rings get chewed. For a shop doing 6T40 work with any regularity this pays for itself the first time it saves a scored bore.
