700R4 Transmission Rebuild Kit with Frictions and Band

Full overhaul kit for the GM 700R4 (also called the 4L60 after 1990) covering 1982 through 1993 units, including the early hydraulic 700R4 and the first year 4L60E. Remco part number RK700R4-FBA. The box holds the high energy friction plates for the forward, direct, overrun and 3-4 clutch packs, a new front band, the front pump bushing, a filter, and the complete gasket and seal set including pan gasket, pump gasket, lip seals and the sealing rings.

Read this before you order: the kit does not include steels or the remaining case bushings. That is normal for an overhaul or banner kit at this level and it is the right call if your steels came out clean and flat. Lay every steel on a surface plate, check for coning and blue heat marks, and if any of them are dished or discolored buy that pack separately. A unit that came in slipping in third or had no reverse usually took the steels with it, so plan on more parts. A tired but still working unit that just needs a refresh is exactly what this kit is built for.

Typical 700R4 job with this kit: pull the pan and valve body, drop the pump, pull the drums, and replace every friction and lip seal on the bench. The front band and pump bushing are the two parts people skip and then get a repeat comeback for, so do both while the case is apart. Set the 3-4 clutch clearance and the forward clutch clearance with a dial indicator before final assembly. Common fitment is the 82-93 GM RWD trucks and cars, Astro, Blazer, C/K 1500, Camaro, Corvette, Firebird and the S10 platform.
