A weeping shift shaft seal is one of the most common leaks on a GM 4L60E or 4L80E, and it is maddening because the seal is cheap but getting to it looks like a big job. The manual shaft that the shift linkage bolts to rides in a seal on the side of the case, and once it starts seeping you get a slow drip that shows up right under the shifter area and never quite goes away. This kit lets you deal with it in the vehicle instead of pulling the transmission.

You get three pieces: a threaded remover that bites into the old seal so you can screw it out, an installer sleeve that seats the new seal square, and a replacement seal to put in. Pull the shift lever off the shaft, unplug and move the range switch out of the way, thread the remover into the old seal, and turn the bolt to draw it out. Clean the shaft, oil the new seal, and press it home with the installer. No dropping the pan, no lowering the case, no guessing.
