8L90 Friction Clutch Plate Kit, BorgWarner 35445KIT

This is the BorgWarner 35445KIT friction plate set for the GM 8L90 eight-speed automatic (2015 and later), the unit behind the 6.2L in Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade, Camaro SS/ZL1 and Corvette. BorgWarner supplies friction material to OEMs, so these plates are the same class of lining the unit left the plant with, not a generic paper. The kit is frictions only: 21 plates covering every clutch pack in the case.

What is in the bag: (4) C1 plates for the 1-3-5-6-7 clutch, 0.074 in thick, 42 teeth, 7-9/16 in OD. (4) C2 plates for the 4-5-6-7-8-Reverse clutch, 0.065 in, 21 teeth, 6-5/16 in OD. (5) C3 plates for the 2-3-4-5-6-8 clutch, 0.065 in, 23 teeth, 6-13/16 in OD. (5) C4 plates for the 1-2-7-8 clutch, 0.057 in, 36 teeth, 7-11/16 in OD. (3) C5 plates for the 1-2-3-4-5-Reverse clutch, 0.081 in, 48 teeth, 7-5/16 in OD.

On the bench: soak every plate in the ATF you will fill with (Dexron HP / Dexron ULV depending on calibration) for at least 30 minutes before stacking. Build each pack plate by plate against your steels, then check clearance with a dial indicator and adjust with the selective backing plate. The 8L90 is sensitive to clutch clearance, and a pack left loose is a common source of flare and harsh shift complaints after a rebuild. Pair this set with an overhaul gasket and seal kit and new steels if the old ones are heat-blued or scored.

This is the right set when a teardown shows burnt, glazed or worn-to-the-grooves frictions, when you are overhauling after a shudder or slip complaint, or when you want a fresh friction stack with bonded-piston or valve body work. It does not include steels, seals, gaskets or pistons.
