OTC 6913 Extension Housing Bushing Remover for 5R55E

The OTC 6913 pulls the extension housing bushing out of a Ford tailshaft housing without heat, without a cutting tool, and without hammering. The puller body feeds in through the bushing from the rear of the housing, the shoulder catches the back edge of the bushing, and the drive screw bears on the housing face to draw the bushing straight out. It is the aftermarket equivalent of Ford special service tool 308-070.

Applications cover the Ranger and small Ford rear-drive family: 4R44E, 4R55E, 5R44E and 5R55E automatics, the older A4LD and C3, the T5OD manual, and the 6F15 and 6F35 tailshaft housings. Because the pull is a screw load and not a slide-hammer hit, the aluminum bore stays round and you do not shock the housing or the seal bore behind it.

The bushing is what you replace when the driveshaft yoke has vertical play at the back of the transmission, when a fresh rear seal starts weeping again within a few hundred miles, or when there is a driveline vibration that changes with load. A worn bushing lets the yoke wobble, and the wobble is what cuts the new seal lip. Pull the bushing, check the yoke for scoring, then drive the new bushing in square before the seal goes back.

The tool is made in the USA and comes as the puller shaft, shoulder, and drive screw. It stores flat in a box under 10 inches long, so it lives in the tailshaft drawer instead of taking up a bench tray.
