Retaining Ring Pliers Set 4-Piece 9 Inch Internal External

This is the TEKTON PRR91007 set: four 9-inch retaining ring pliers with 0.090 in. tips, supplied in a roll. You get straight internal, 90-degree internal, straight external and 90-degree external, which covers both directions of ring and both approach angles you run into on a transmission bench.

The 9-inch length is the point. Most general-purpose snap ring pliers are 5 to 7 inches and run out of reach before the tips get to the ring at the bottom of a clutch drum or behind a servo bore. The 90-degree pairs let you come at a ring that sits below a lip or inside a case bore where a straight tip cannot line up square.

The tips are angled, hardened and crimped in rather than being a loose replaceable pin, so they do not wander or fall out mid-job, and the outward-angled tip and flat jaw surfaces keep the plier from twisting out of the ring holes under load. Fixed-tip pliers are not adjustable, which is the trade - you give up one tool covering every tip size and you get a set that holds its bite on a stiff ring instead of launching it across the shop.
