12-Piece Snap Ring Pliers Set with 45 and 90 Degree Jaws

The ring that stops a rebuild is almost never the one sitting out in the open. It is the retainer down inside a drum where a straight-jaw plier cannot get square to the eye, or the one behind a shaft where you need the tip turned 90 degrees to even touch it. That is what a twelve-piece fixed-jaw set is for. This kit covers three lengths - 6 in, 8 in and 9 in - in four tip diameters (.038, .047, .070 and .090 in) and three jaw angles (0, 45 and 90 degrees), so you can match reach, tip size and approach angle instead of forcing whatever is closest.

Small tips matter more than people expect. Valve body retainers, accumulator rings and governor and solenoid retainers often use a .038 or .047 in eye, and a .070 in tip will not enter it - you end up prying on the ring face and bending it. The larger .070 and .090 in tips handle the heavy stuff: clutch pack retainers, drum snap rings, output shaft and pump rings that are carrying real spring load.

Each plier has a quick-release button that flips it between internal and external action, so one tool covers both directions at that tip size and angle. Jaws are fixed rather than swappable, which is the right call under load - a loose interchangeable tip is what walks out of the ring and scars a bore. Bodies are forged CRV steel, heat treated, with a phosphate finish that holds up around ATF and solvent.

Handles are cushioned and non-slip, which you notice on the twentieth ring of a long day. Everything sits in a molded case in size order, so you can see at a glance which tip and angle you already have in hand and which one you still need out of the drawer.
