TR580 CVT AWD Transfer Clutch Solenoid 31825AA050

This is the AWD transfer clutch pressure control solenoid for the Subaru TR580 and TR690 Lineartronic CVT, cross referenced to Subaru part numbers 31825AA050, 31825AA051 and 31825AA052, and to the 31706AA030, 31706AA031, 31706AA032 and 31706AA033 group. Listed fitment covers Crosstrek 2016-2019, Forester 2014-2023, Impreza 2012-2023, Legacy 2013-2019, Outback 2013-2019 and WRX 2015-2020.

Subaru runs its symmetrical all-wheel drive through a multi-plate transfer clutch at the back of the CVT, and this solenoid is what meters pressure to that clutch pack. When the solenoid sticks or its winding drifts out of spec, the clutch either locks up harder than it should or never applies at all. Locked up, you get torque bind: a shudder and a chattering driveline in tight parking-lot turns, worst on dry pavement. Not applying, you get an AWD warning lamp, a front-drive-only car, and stored transfer clutch duty codes. Both are commonly misdiagnosed as a bad rear differential or mismatched tires, so check tire circumference and the FWD fuse before you condemn parts.

The solenoid lives in the rear extension housing of the transaxle and is reachable without splitting the case. Verify the part number on your old solenoid against the list above, because Subaru revised this piece more than once across the TR580 and TR690 production run and the connector and resistance are not the same across all of them. After fitting, clear the codes and drive the car through a few slow full-lock turns on dry pavement to confirm the bind is gone.
