UB80E Transmission Clutch Friction Plate Rebuild Kit

This is the friction plate set for the Aisin UB80E / UB80F eight-speed transaxle, sold under OE-style part number W197880E. It covers the clutch pack frictions that go in during an overhaul -- the plates that actually carry torque and the first thing that burns when the unit starts slipping. It is a friction kit, not a full master overhaul kit, so plan on sourcing your own steels, sealing rings, gaskets and pan filter to go with it.

Fitment is Toyota Camry 2.5L 2018-2020, Toyota Avalon 2.5L 2019-2020, Toyota RAV4 2.5L 2019-2020 and Lexus ES350 3.5L AWD 2019-2020. Verify the tag on the case before you order -- the UB80 family shares a lot of hardware with the UA80E / UA80F used behind the 3.5L, but the clutch pack stacks are not interchangeable between them.

On the bench this goes in after the unit is split and the drums are apart. Soak the new frictions in the correct WS-spec fluid for at least twenty minutes before assembly so the paper is saturated and does not glaze on first apply, then stack friction / steel alternating exactly as they came out and check clearance on each pack with a feeler gauge against your spec before the snap ring goes back in. Reusing an old steel that is coned or heat-spotted will cook a new friction in short order, so inspect them and replace anything discolored.

The complaints that lead here are the usual burnt-clutch symptoms on these units: flare or slip between gears under light throttle, shudder at lockup, delayed engagement into drive when cold, and dark fluid that smells burnt with friction material in the pan. If you are already in the unit for one of those, the frictions get replaced as a set -- there is no reason to reuse any of them.
