4L60E High Performance 3-4 Clutch Pack with Red Eagle Frictions

The 3-4 clutch is the pack that kills 4L60E and 700R4 units. It holds third and fourth, which means it is applied every mile of highway driving, and the factory frictions glaze and burn long before anything else in the box wears out. You feel it as a flare on the 3-4 shift, RPM climbing in overdrive without the truck picking up speed, and eventually no third or fourth at all. TCI's 374190 pack replaces those frictions with Red Eagle high-energy material, the same friction the performance shops run behind a stall converter or a towed load.

It fits the GM 700R4 (1982-1993) and the 4L60 / 4L60E (1993-up) as used in Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban, Blazer, S-10, Astro, Camaro, Firebird and Corvette. The pack ships as a matched set of Red Eagle friction discs and steel plates for the 3-4 drum, TCI part number 374190, made in the United States.

On the bench this goes into the input drum with the 3-4 apply piston. Soak the frictions in clean ATF before you stack them, alternate friction and steel exactly as they came out, and set 3-4 clutch pack clearance with the correct selective plate before the drum closes up. Air-check the drum through the input shaft feed hole and watch that the piston strokes and releases cleanly. Fix the reason the old pack burned while you are in there: a worn pump slide or vane set drops line pressure, and a cracked reaction sun shell lets the drum walk, and either one will cook a new 3-4 pack in a few thousand miles.
