4L60E Master Overhaul Kit with Frictions, Steels and Band

This is a complete master overhaul kit for the GM 4L60E built between 1997 and 2003. It carries the full friction plate set, the matching steel clutch plates, the band, a new filter, the overhaul gasket set, metal-clad and lip seals, O-rings and Teflon sealing rings, plus the pump bushing and extension housing bushing. Because the steels are in the box, you are not gambling on whether your old plates are flat enough to reuse.

Fitment covers the usual 1997-2003 GM truck and SUV lineup running the 4L60E: Silverado 1500, Tahoe, Suburban 1500, Blazer, S10, Astro, Express 1500, Trailblazer, Camaro 1997-2002, and Cadillac Escalade 1999-2003 including the EXT and ESV. Verify your unit is a 4L60E and not a 4L65E with the five-pinion planets before ordering, since the clutch counts differ.

Bench sequence is the normal 4L60E teardown: pull the pan and valve body, remove the pump, strip the drums, then clean and air-check every circuit before you build. Soak the new frictions in clean ATF for at least fifteen minutes so they do not flash-burn on first apply. Replace the pump bushing and extension housing bushing while the case is apart, set clutch pack clearance as you stack each drum, install the band and servo, and finish with the new filter and pan gasket.

This is the kit for the units that come in slipping in third, flaring on the 2-3 shift, burning the 3-4 pack, or dropping out of overdrive after they warm up. Those failures chew up frictions and steels together, which is why a frictions-only kit is usually not enough on a high-mileage 4L60E.
