Full overhaul kit for GM 4L60E units 1993-2004: friction and steel clutch modules, deep-pan filter, gaskets, seals, O-rings and sealing rings.
This is a complete teardown-to-assembly kit for the GM 4L60E four-speed automatic, covering model years 1993 through 2004. It ships with both the friction clutch module and the steel clutch module, so you are not sourcing plates separately after the case is already split. Also in the box: the deep-pan style filter and pan gasket, the full soft-parts set (paper and rubber gaskets, lip seals, O-rings, Teflon and cast-iron sealing rings), and printed tech sheets.
The 4L60E is the RWD version of the 700R4 and sits behind small-block and Vortec engines in Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Suburban, Camaro, Firebird, S-10, Blazer and Astro platforms. The units that come across the bench usually show up with the same complaints: a slipping or burnt 3-4 clutch pack, no reverse from a cracked reaction sun shell, or a delayed 1-2 shift from hardened accumulator seals. A soft-parts-only overhaul kit will not fix a burnt clutch pack, which is why this kit includes the friction and steel modules.
On the bench: strip the case, air-check the circuits, then replace every lip seal and Teflon ring before reassembly. Soak the new frictions in Dexron VI for at least 20 minutes before they go in. Set clutch pack clearance with the correct selective before the drums close up, and set pump-to-case end play with the appropriate thrust washer. The deep-pan filter in this kit fits the deep pan; if the vehicle has a shallow pan, use the shallow filter instead.
Note this is an overhaul kit, not a complete unit. Hard parts that are cracked, scored, or worn past spec - sun shell, drums, pump, valve body - are inspected and replaced separately.
