Clamps around a GM front pump so the cover stays centered on the body while you torque the halves together, so the pump doesn't bind or leak the moment you fire it up.
Rebuilding a GM front pump is one of those jobs where the last step is where it goes wrong. You have the pump body and the pump cover clean and reassembled with a fresh seal and gears, and now you have to torque the two halves together. If the cover shifts off center even a little while you snug the bolts, the pump gears bind, the stator support ends up cocked, and the whole unit either drags or leaks pressure the first time you spin it. This band is the cheap insurance that keeps that from happening.
You slip the stainless band around the outside diameter of the pump, snug the wing nut, and it squeezes the cover and body into concentric alignment before you ever put a wrench on the bolts. Torque the pump down with the band holding everything centered, back the wing nut off, and pull it clear. That single step is the difference between a pump that drops into the case clean and one you have to pull back apart on the bench. The wing nut makes it fast to size up and down, and the all-metal build means it clamps square instead of flexing like a hose clamp.
One band covers a wide run of GM units: the TH250, TH350, TH400, 3L80, 700-R4, 4L60, 4L60E, and PowerGlide pumps all pass through it, so it earns a permanent spot on the rebuild bench. If you build GM automatics at all, this is a buy-once tool. Ships from the USA.
