Holds the vane pump slide spring seated so it will not launch while you set the slide and ring on GM 700R4, 4L60E, 6L80, and 6L90 pumps.
The GM variable-displacement vane pump used in the 700R4/4L60E family and the later 6L80/6L90 has a pivoting slide that rides against a bias spring, usually called the slide spring or priming spring. When you rebuild the pump you have to set that spring behind the slide and hold it compressed while the slide and pump ring drop into place. Do it with a pick or your fingers and the spring wants to launch across the shop or pinch you, and you end up chasing it under the bench.
This installer is a simple flat aluminum tool shaped to hook the slide spring and hold it seated so you can drop the slide in one motion. It works on 2004R, 700R4, 4L60E, 4L65E, 4L70E, 6L45, 6L50, 6L80, and 6L90 pumps, which all use the same style of vane-pump slide spring. Made in the USA out of corrosion-resistant aluminum, so it will not rust in a parts washer.
On the bench you set the slide spring into the pump body, catch it with the tool, compress it, seat the slide and ring, then slide the tool out from under. It turns a two-hand fight into a one-hand job and keeps the spring from flying when you are assembling the pump. Light tool, 4.6 ounces, so it stays with your pump kit.
