A worn 4T65E typically shows up as a slipping 2-3 upshift, delayed engagement into drive or reverse, flare under load and codes such as P0730 or P1811 once the clutches glaze. On the bench, tear the unit down, clean and inspect drums, pistons and the pump, soak the new frictions in ATF before assembly, replace every lip seal and sealing ring in the kit, check clutch pack clearances as you stack them, and refill with Dexron VI. Reset shift adapts with a scan tool after the first drive.
