Complete 545RFE valve body with the solenoid block attached, for Dodge Ram, Dakota, Durango and Jeep 4.7L and 5.7L RFE five-speeds.
This is a complete 545RFE valve body with the solenoid block already mounted, so the repair is one assembly instead of a valve body plus a separate solenoid pack plus the gaskets between them. It carries Chrysler part references 5170877AA and 52119435AB and interchanges across the RFE family: 45RFE four-speed, 545RFE five-speed, and 68RFE. The unit is remanufactured - the casting is cleaned, the bores are checked, worn spool valves are replaced and the solenoids are function tested before it ships.
Fitment covers the trucks and SUVs that ran the RFE five-speed behind the 4.7L and 5.7L: Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500, Dakota, Durango, Chrysler Aspen, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Commander and Liberty of the same era. Before you buy, drop the pan and read the casting and the solenoid block connector color on the unit in the truck - the early black-connector blocks and the later grey ones are not interchangeable, and the connector on this assembly has to match your harness.
The symptoms that send a 545RFE valve body to the bench are consistent: limp mode with the transmission stuck in third, no 2nd gear, a hard 1-2 hit, delayed engagement into drive after the truck sits, and P0700 with any of the P0750 through P0765 solenoid circuit codes stored. Most of that traces to the solenoid pack itself or to worn bores in the valve body dumping line pressure, which is why replacing the two as one assembly is the fix that actually holds.
It is a pan-down job on the truck. Drain the fluid, pull the pan and the filter, unplug the solenoid block connector at the case, remove the valve body bolts and lower the assembly out with the manual valve link disconnected from the shift lever. On reassembly, engage the manual valve link first, then start every bolt by hand before torquing so the separator plate seats flat. Fill with ATF+4 only - the RFE units do not tolerate substitute fluid - and relearn the shift adapts after the first drive.
Before you replace it, read our step-by-step 45RFE valve body test guide — the symptoms and codes, the line-pressure and vacuum checks, and how to confirm the valve body is the fault. See all 45RFE parts.
