6HP21 Transmission Valve Body Solenoid Kit 1068298047

This is the solenoid complement that bolts to the valve body of a ZF 6HP21 or 6HP28 six-speed automatic, sold under OE numbers 1068298047, 1068227066 and 0501319037. It covers the 6HP21, 6HP21X, 6HP28 and 6HP28X, which is the box behind BMW 528i, 535i, 550i, 740i, 750i and X5, and behind the Jaguar XF and XJ. The X suffix units are the all-wheel-drive variants, and they use the same solenoid set as the rear-drive versions.

Solenoids are what actually meter line pressure and clutch apply on this transmission, so when they wear you feel it before you read it: harsh or banging upshifts, a delayed engagement when you pull into Drive or Reverse, flare between gears where the engine runs up without the car pulling, and eventually limp mode locked in third. On the scan tool that shows as the P0750 through P0770 solenoid family. Replacing the whole set at once is the sane move here, because every solenoid in the unit has seen the same fluid and the same heat cycles, and chasing one at a time on a 6HP means pulling the pan twice.

On the bench: drop the pan and filter, unclip the mechatronic connector at the case, and unbolt the valve body. Swap the solenoids one at a time rather than pulling them all off first, so nothing lands in the wrong bore, and keep the bores and the separator plate clean as you go. Reinstall the valve body evenly to spec, fit a new pan gasket and filter, then refill through the level plug and set the level at fluid temperature the way ZF specifies. This transmission has no dipstick, so plan on a proper fill at temperature, not a guess.

Note that this is a solenoid kit, not a complete valve body and not a mechatronic unit. If the failure is in the mechatronic control board or the internal wiring sleeve, solenoids alone will not fix it.
