6L80 Reverse Drum Removal and Installation Tool T-47781AC

This is the T-47781AC drum handling tool for the GM 6L50, 6L80 and 6L90 six-speeds used in 2006-and-up Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC rear-drive cars and trucks. The 1-2-3-4 and 3-5-Reverse drum is heavy, sits deep in the case, and has nothing on it to grab. Pulling it by hand means hooking a finger under the lip and hoping, and the usual result is a cocked drum that hangs up in the case bore or drops back down and nicks a bushing.

The tool clamps the drum body from above and locks with a manual switch on the handle. Set the jaws over the drum, flip the switch to lock, and lift straight up - the clamp holds the drum square so it clears the case bore without binding. Installation is the same sequence in reverse, which is the harder half of the job: you have to bring the drum down level while the clutch hub splines line up, and being able to hold it steady with one hand while you rock the input shaft with the other is what turns a twenty-minute fight into a one-minute drop.
