Expands and then resizes the input shaft sealing rings on GM 6L80E and 6L90E transmissions so the input drum slides on without shaving or rolling a ring.
These are the plastic Teflon-style sealing rings that ride on the turbine/input shaft of the GM 6L80E and 6L90E six-speed and seal the input drum. Any time you pull that drum for a rebuild you disturb those rings, and they have to go back on and seat perfectly or the unit loses input clutch apply pressure.
The tool is a two-piece set: an expander that stretches a fresh ring open so it drops down over the shaft lands without twisting or nicking it, and a resizer sleeve you push the ring back through so it returns to the exact drum-bore diameter. Work from the ring furthest down the shaft toward you so you are not dragging a finished ring past the one you are still fitting.
Skip the resizing step and the ring stands proud of the shaft, so when you slide the input drum on you shave, roll, or spiral-cut it. That shows up as a soft or missing 1-2-3-4 apply, a burnt input clutch, or low line on the scan tool after the rebuild. Sizing the rings back down first is what lets the drum slide on square and hold pressure.
Fits the GM 6L80E and 6L90E family used in 2006-up Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Escalade, Camaro and CTS. Made from tough plastic so it flexes the ring without scoring it.
