Aluminum valve bores wear oval over miles, especially in a truck that tows. Once a bore is worn the valve no longer seals against it, oil bleeds off past the valve instead of going to the clutch, and apply pressure drops. On a 6R140 that shows up as a flared or slipping shift, a soft or delayed engagement, and clutch material in the pan on the next service - and it gets worse, because a slipping clutch burns and puts debris back through the same valve body.

The kit addresses those leak paths in the valve body itself. You pull the pan and the valve body, work on the bench, and put the unit back together without splitting the case or pulling the transmission out of the truck, which is the whole reason to do this repair before the clutches are gone.
