About this product

This is the complete conductor plate service kit for the Mercedes-Benz 722.6 five-speed automatic, the transmission Mercedes marketed as 5G-Tronic and Chrysler used as the NAG1/W5A580 behind the 300, Charger, Challenger, Grand Cherokee and Wrangler. The kit covers OEM numbers 1402701161, 2035400253, 68049181AA, 917679, 2012679 and 0440370, and includes the conductor plate itself, the 13-pin connector adapter plug with fresh o-rings, the spin-in transmission filter and the oil pan gasket. Listed fitment includes A190 2001-2004, C230 1997-2005, C240 2001-2005, C280 1997-2007, C320 2001-2005, C350 2006-2007, CL500 1997-2011, CL600 1997-2014, CL63 AMG 2010-2012, CLK320 1997-2005, CLK430 1999-2003, CLK500 2003-2005, plus E-Class, ML, S-Class and Sprinter 2500/3500 vans running the same unit.

The conductor plate is the flat electrical carrier that sits on top of the valve body and ties the internal speed sensors and shift solenoids to the outside world through that 13-pin connector in the case. When it goes, the symptoms are consistent: the transmission drops into limp home and holds second gear, the car will not upshift, shifts turn harsh or delayed coming out of Park, and the scan tool stores speed sensor faults. The other half of the failure is the connector sleeve. Its o-rings harden with age, ATF wicks up the wiring harness, and the fluid eventually reaches the transmission control module, which is why the plug adapter is included rather than sold separately.

The job is done from underneath with the transmission in the car. Drain and drop the pan, pull the filter, then unclip the wiring from the conductor plate and release the internal side of the 13-pin connector before you push the sleeve out of the case. The plate lifts off the valve body once its retainers are released. Set the new plate down flat so the sensor pickups seat square, install the new sleeve with its fresh o-rings, then fit the new filter and pan gasket. Refill with the correct ATF and set the level by fill temperature, not by a cold dipstick reading - the 722.6 is sensitive to level and will act like it has a hydraulic problem if it is off. Clearing the stored codes after the repair lets the adaptives relearn on the road.

Because the filter and pan gasket are in the box, this is a one-trip repair: the plate, the leaking connector and the service items all get replaced while the pan is already down. If you are chasing a 722.6 that is stuck in limp mode or you have found ATF in the transmission plug, this is the kit that addresses the whole failure instead of one piece of it.
