Complete 722.6 valve body with shift solenoids fitted, for Mercedes C-Class, CLK and ML five-speed automatics stuck in limp home.
This is a complete 722.6 valve body with the shift solenoids already fitted, replacing Mercedes-Benz part number 2112770101 on the five-speed 722.6 automatic (also called the W5A580, and sold as the NAG1 in Chrysler-family cars). Listed fitment is C230, C240, C280, C320 and C350, CL55 and CL65, CLK320, CLK430, CLK500 and CLK55, and ML55, model years 1995 through 2006. Check the transmission tag before ordering - the later 722.9 seven-speed uses an entirely different body and does not interchange.
The 722.6 gets sent to the bench for two reasons. The first is the conductor plate and its speed sensors going open, which drops the car into limp home and leaves it stuck in second with no downshifts. The second is bore wear inside the aluminum valve body itself, which shows up as a 2-3 flare, a delayed engagement into drive when hot, or a shudder on torque converter lockup. New solenoids will not fix a worn bore, which is why replacing the whole body is the repair once the casting is worn rather than chasing individual solenoids.
On the bench: drop the pan and the filter, unclip the 13-pin conductor plate connector, and back out the valve body bolts. The manual valve rides on the detent lever pin, so lower the body straight down and off the pin instead of prying it sideways. Torque the bolts down evenly in a spiral from the center out, refill with the correct Mercedes ATF for your build, and check level at operating temperature through the fill plug. Reset the transmission adaptation values with a scan tool afterward - a 722.6 left on the old adapts will shift hard for the first few hundred miles.
