6L80 Transmission Friction Clutch Plate Kit, GM OE 24248008

This is the GM Original Equipment friction plate package, GM and ACDelco part number 24248008, for the GM six-speed automatic family. It is the same friction material General Motors installs at the factory, not an aftermarket substitute, and it carries the GM part number so a shop building to OE spec can document what went in the unit.

Fitment covers 2009 through 2022 GM applications: Silverado and Sierra 1500, 2500 and 3500, Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon and Yukon XL, Escalade and Escalade ESV, Avalanche, Express and Savana vans, Corvette, Camaro SS, Chevrolet SS, Pontiac G8, and 2009 Cadillac STS and XLR. That spans the 6L80, 6L90 and 6L50 six-speeds. Check the plate count and the pack you are rebuilding before ordering, because these units use separate friction stacks for the 1-2-3-4, 3-5-Reverse, low-reverse and 4-5-6 clutches.

The reason most of these come apart is burnt clutch material. A 6L80 that flares on the 2-3 or 3-5 shift, slips under light throttle at highway speed, or drops reverse has usually cooked a friction stack, and you will find brown flakes on the pan magnet and packed into the filter. Replacing the frictions without addressing the fluid and the cooler just cooks the new set, so flush the cooler and lines before the unit goes back in.

On the bench: soak the new frictions in clean Dexron VI for at least twenty minutes before assembly so the paper is saturated, stack them alternating with the steels, and check pack clearance with a depth micrometer against the GM spec for that clutch before you install the snap ring. Air-check each drum through the feed hole once the pack is together so you know the piston strokes and the seals hold before the case goes back together.
