This is the planetary gear assembly for the Mercedes-Benz 4Matic transfer case mounted to the back of the 722.9 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic. It references OE numbers A2212708604 (A 221 270 86 04) and A2212701843 (A 221 270 18 43). Listed fitment includes the W204-platform GLK250 and GLK350 with 4Matic. In a 4Matic transfer case, the planetary set works as the center differential, splitting torque between the front and rear driveshafts. When the gears or the carrier wear, you get a whine or growl that rises with road speed, a clunk when you shift into drive or reverse, or a bind in tight parking-lot turns. Draining the transfer case often turns up metal on the drain plug.

The planetary is serviced with the transfer case off the vehicle and split. While it is apart, inspect the bearings, the shaft seals and the drive chain, since a failed planetary usually leaves debris through the whole case. Replace worn bearings and seals at the same time. Clean the case halves and sealing surfaces, reassemble with new sealant, and refill with the specified transfer case fluid. Weight is 7.45 lb.
