4L60E High Friction Deluxe Rebuild Kit, Less Steels

This is the parts list for a 4L60E rebuild that addresses the two things that actually killed the unit - worn frictions and hard bonded pistons - in one box. It covers 4L60E, 4L65E and 4L70E units in the 1997-2003 range, the years with the later valve body and PWM converter clutch.

Six pieces: a high friction clutch pack, a High Performance blue bonded piston kit, a 2.280 in wide Pro-Series flex band, a deep pan filter, a babbitt pump bushing, and an overhaul gasket and seal set. The bonded pistons matter more than most rebuilders give them credit for - the factory rubber-to-metal bond hardens and cracks with heat and age, and a cracked piston lip bleeds apply pressure, which reads on the bench as a slipping clutch even with brand new frictions in the drum. Replacing frictions without replacing pistons is how a rebuild comes back. The babbitt pump bushing covers the other common wear point, a worn bushing letting the stator support move and cutting the pump seal.

Read this before ordering: steel plates are NOT included. This is a Less Steels kit, intended for a rebuild where your steels measure clean, flat and within thickness spec. If your steels are blued, coned or scored, order steels separately or step up to a kit that includes them, because reusing burnt steels will cook the new frictions.
