4L60E Super Rebuild Kit with Steels and Clutches 1997-2003

This is a super rebuild kit for the GM 4L60E, 1997 through 2003. Beyond the standard overhaul kit (all gaskets, O-rings, sealing rings, seals and the common small parts, with tech sheets), it adds the pieces that usually send you back to the parts counter halfway through a job: a high energy friction clutch module, the steel clutch module, a high energy 2-4 band, a 3-piece bonded piston set, a pump bushing and a deep-pan style filter.

The bonded pistons matter on this unit. The original 4L60E input, forward and overrun pistons rely on separate lip seals that harden and leak with age, which shows up as slipping or delayed engagement once the unit is hot. Bonded pistons have the seal molded to the piston, so they install without rolling a lip and hold apply pressure better. The 2-4 band is the other common 4L60E wear point; a burned band gives a flare or slip on the 1-2 and 3-4 shifts.

The 1997-2003 range is the later case and harness style. Check your build date before ordering, and confirm whether your pan is the deep or shallow style so the filter matches. Soak the frictions and band in ATF before assembly and measure clearances on each pack as you build.
