T-0158 Clutch Drum Spring Compressor - Bench Mount Transmission Tool

This is the T-0158-style clutch drum spring compressor, the bench tool you clamp a clutch pack drum into so you can compress the return spring and get the retaining snap ring out without the spring launching at you. It handles the common apply-piston return springs and Belleville washers found in most automatic clutch drums up to about 6 inches across, which covers the bulk of Chrysler, GM, Ford, and Turbo Hydramatic units you rebuild on the bench.

The frame bolts to a workbench or clamps in a vise, and the long legs reach down into deeper drums so the spreader plate sits square on the spring retainer instead of cocking to one side. You set the drum under the pressure screw, wind the screw down until the retainer clears the snap ring groove, pick the ring out with a pick or snap ring pliers, then back the screw off in a controlled way. That is a job you do not want to do with two screwdrivers and a prayer, which is the whole reason this tool exists.

It is a functional equivalent to the Atec Trans-Tool T-0158-HD. Built from steel for repeat use. One note from the bench: keep the spreader plate centered and your hands clear while the spring is loaded, and inspect the welds when it arrives before you put a spring under full load.
