Subaru TR580 CVT Valve Body Assembly 31825AA050

Assembled control valve body for the Subaru TR580 Lineartronic CVT, the chain-drive continuously variable unit used behind the 1.6L, 2.0L and 2.5L four cylinders. It supersedes Subaru part numbers 31825AA050, 31825AA051 and 31825AA052, and carries the 163740B casting reference. Listed fitment covers Forester 2011-2016 (1.6L and 2.5L), Impreza 2010-2016 1.6L, Outback 2009-2016 2.5L, XV 2012-2014 1.6L and 2.0L, XV Crosstrek 2013-2014 2.0L, Levorg 2014-2016 1.6L, and Exiga 2012-2016. Subaru revised this valve body several times across those years, so compare your existing unit to the photos before ordering.

This is the part you go to when the TR580 has bore wear or a stuck solenoid rather than a worn chain and pulley set. The usual symptoms are a shudder or judder under light throttle at 20 to 40 mph, delayed engagement into drive or reverse after a cold start, a flare where engine speed climbs but the ratio does not follow, and P0841 or P0846 pressure sensor codes stored alongside a lit CVT temperature light. Those come from secondary pressure that the valve body can no longer hold steady, and once the aluminum bores are worn the individual solenoid will not fix it.

Replacement is done with the transmission pan and internal filter off, working under the car or on the bench. Drop the pan, note solenoid harness routing, unbolt the old valve body, and transfer nothing - this ships as a complete assembly with the solenoids and separator plate in place. Torque the bolts evenly in a spiral pattern so the plate seats flat, then refill with genuine Subaru CVT fluid and perform the fluid level check at the specified fluid temperature. Skipping the temperature-referenced level check is the fastest way to end up back where you started.
