About this product

This is genuine Subaru CVTF-II, the green synthetic fluid Subaru specifies for its Lineartronic chain-drive CVT (Subaru part SOA427V1660). It is factory fill, not a universal substitute, so it carries the exact friction and viscosity characteristics the Lineartronic chain-and-pulley system was calibrated around. This listing is a case of six one-quart bottles, which is enough for one complete drain-and-fill service on these transmissions.

CVTF-II covers a specific window of Subaru CVT applications: 2013-2019 Crosstrek with CVT (non-hybrid) and 2014-2016 Crosstrek Hybrid, 2014-2023 Forester 2.5 naturally aspirated with CVT (not the Wilderness), 2010-2019 Legacy 2.5 (FB25) and 2010-2014 Legacy 3.6, 2010-2019 Outback 2.5 (FB25) and 2010-2014 Outback 3.6, and 2012-2023 Impreza 2.0 non-turbo with CVT. Subaru has run more than one CVT fluid over the years (older CVTF, this CVTF-II, and the later CVTF-III / SOA427V2610), and the specs are not interchangeable, so confirm the fluid your VIN calls for before you drain anything. It is not the fluid for turbocharged high-torque units or the Forester Wilderness.

A Subaru CVT is serviced by drain-and-fill, not a geared-automatic style flush. Pull the drain plug and let it empty, reinstall the plug, then refill through the fill/charge port with roughly the same volume you drained, usually in the five-to-six quart range for a single service. Level is set off the check plug with the fluid held inside Subaru’s specified temperature window, so a scan tool or the CVT temperature readout is part of doing it right. Because the check is temperature-dependent, do not just top it cold and call it done.

These transmissions are hard on fluid and sensitive to heat, and a chain CVT that starts to judder or flare on acceleration is often running fluid that has sheared down and lost its friction properties. Fresh CVTF-II on a sensible interval (many owners of higher-mileage cars change it every 30,000 to 60,000 miles instead of treating it as lifetime fill) is cheap insurance against a CVT replacement that runs into the thousands.
