About this product

Four-piece solenoid set for the Subaru TR580 Lineartronic CVT, covering the torque converter lock-up circuit and the AWD transfer clutch pressure control circuit. It replaces Subaru part numbers 31825AA050, 31825AA051 and 31825AA052, and cross-references to Dorman 926-408. Listed fitment is Crosstrek 2013-2023, Forester 2014-2023, Legacy 2015-2023 and Outback 2015-2023, and the same solenoid bodies are used in the TR690 unit found behind the six-cylinder and turbo cars.

Resistance values are the fast way to tell whether the solenoids you pulled are the problem. The torque converter valve reads 3 to 3.8 ohms and the lock-up valve reads 12.4 to 13.2 ohms. Check each one cold at the connector before you condemn the valve body: open circuit, a dead short, or a reading well outside those windows means the coil is finished. Reading in range does not clear the solenoid on its own, since these fail mechanically from varnish and clutch debris in the fluid long before the winding gives up.

The symptoms that put a TR580 on the bench for these are lock-up shudder at light throttle around 35 to 50 mph that feels like driving over rumble strips, converter clutch codes, AWD torque bind on tight turns, and a transfer clutch that either drags or will not apply. Because the lock-up clutch on a Lineartronic is applied far more of the time than on a conventional automatic, a lazy TC solenoid burns fluid and glazes the clutch quickly, which is why shudder complaints usually come back if you only flush and reset.

Access is through the valve body with the pan down. Note where each solenoid sits and how its harness routes before you unbolt anything, keep the bore and the screen clean, and use new O-rings and retainers. Refill with genuine Subaru CVTF II. Substitute fluid is the single most common reason a TR580 comes back with the same shudder a few thousand miles after a solenoid job.
