Full fluid service for the late Audi ZF 8HP: pan assembly with integrated filter, 8 liters of Lifeguard 8 spec ATF, new bolts and a fill pump.
This is the whole fluid and filter service for the late-model ZF 8HP eight-speed automatic in one box. The later Audi 8HP does not use a separate drop-in filter and steel pan - the filter is built into the pan, so the correct service is to throw the old pan away and bolt on a new pan assembly with the gasket already fitted. That assembly is what ships here, along with eight 1-liter bottles of ATF to the ZF Lifeguard 8 specification, twelve new pan bolts, a fill plug and seal, and a manual transfer pump for pushing fluid up through the fill port.
Fitment covers the 2017-2024 Q7, 2019-2020 Q8, 2019-2020 A8 Quattro (built through 4/30/2020), 2018-2024 S4, 2018-2024 S5 and S5 Sportback, 2020 S6, and 2020-2024 SQ5 and SQ5 Sportback. These are the cars people are told have a sealed, lifetime-fill transmission. They do not. The fluid shears down and the clutch material it carries ends up circulating through the valve body, and that is what puts a 60,000-mile car into harsh 1-2 shifts and lockup shudder.
On the lift: run the car up to operating temperature first, then drop the pan with the car level. Expect roughly 4 to 5 liters to come out on a straight drain even though dry fill is closer to 9 - that is why eight liters is the right amount to have on the bench if you plan to drain, refill, drive it, and drain it a second time to get the old fluid percentage down. Torque the new bolts in a crossing pattern; the old ones stretch and are the usual reason a pan starts seeping at the corners after a service. Set the final level through the fill plug with the fluid inside the specified temperature window, not cold - filling cold and driving away is how these end up overfilled and foaming.
