ZF 8HP70 Transmission Pan, Filter and Fluid Service Kit

This is the whole ZF 8HP70 pan service in one box. You get the stamped pan with the filter already built into it, the integrated pan gasket, 13 new pan bolts, a fill plug with a fresh seal ring, six liters of OE-spec 8-speed ATF made in Germany, and a hand transfer pump for pushing fluid up through the fill port. The pan assembly replaces Mopar part number 68225344 - on this transmission the filter is not serviceable on its own, so the pan and filter come off and go on together.

Fitment is the 8HP70 eight-speed behind the 5.7L and 3.0L EcoDiesel: Ram 1500 2013-2019, Jeep Grand Cherokee 2014-2019, Dodge Durango 2014-2019, and Dodge Charger and Challenger 2015-2019. It does not fit the 845RE deep-pan units, so check the tag before you order - the 845RE pan is noticeably deeper and uses a different bolt pattern and filter neck.

On the bench or on the lift, the job runs: get the transmission to about 100-110 F, pull the drain plug at the bottom of the pan and let it gravity drain, then break the 13 pan bolts loose in a cross pattern and drop the pan. The filter neck stays seated in the case with an O-ring, so pull it straight down rather than prying sideways. Set the new pan up, start all 13 bolts by hand, then torque in a criss-cross pattern to spec. Refill through the fill port on the side of the case with the included pump until fluid runs back out at the correct temperature window - this transmission has no dipstick, so the overflow tube in the fill plug is what sets your level.

The reason people do this service is that a neglected 8HP70 starts flaring on the 2-3 and the 4-5 and gets a shudder in the lockup clutch as the fluid loses its friction modifier and the filter loads up with clutch material. Six liters covers a pan drop and refill; it is not a full flush of the torque converter, which holds fluid the pan drop does not reach.
