Six friction plates for the 3-4 clutch pack in the GM 4L60E family, sold as Tri Component 77104K-6. Plates are 0.062 in thick. Interchange numbers include GM 8642174 and 8654145, plus 28168AM, 342-1002, 74100C, A74100C, B61108X and 77104X.
Fitment: 4L60E, 4L65E and 4L70E 1993-up, and TH700-R4 1982-1993.
Why this pack: the 3-4 clutch is the most common hard failure in the 4L60E. The classic symptom is a flare or no-shift into third and fourth, with the truck pulling off in first and second fine, and a pan full of black friction material. Worn 3-4 apply pressure, a leaking input housing seal or a weak spring set usually burns it, so fix the cause at the same time or the new plates will not last.
On the bench: soak the frictions in clean ATF for at least 30 minutes, check the steels for heat damage, stack the pack per your manual and set clearance with a feeler gauge. Many builders run an extra friction with thinner steels for more holding capacity; confirm your stack height before you commit to a combination.
